El Choco began as a rare dark-capped mutation that appeared in long-running B+ genetics cultivated by Dave Wombat. Noticing its unusually deep pigmentation and thick structure, Dave continued isolating spores from the darkest fruits generation after generation, gradually refining the strain into the bold, dense variety known today as El Choco.
Over time, the mushrooms became shorter, thicker, and far more richly colored than typical cubensis strains, developing deep chocolate-brown caps with heavy, sturdy stems. Its strong structure and dramatic appearance have since made El Choco a foundational strain for many modern breeding projects, including Chocolate Krinkle, Chocolate Gumby, and ChocoTAT.
